Benecke-Kaliko is presenting its innovations and new products for aircraft interiors for the first time at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg.
The surface materials, from the Dynactiv Surfaces portfolio, are specially tailored to the needs of the aviation industry and therefore meet the sector’s high standards in terms of safety, design and material finish. Upholstery materials and floor coverings for aircraft interiors have to be lightweight, yet very hard-wearing.
Significantly enhancing the aircraft interior
The surface materials for seat cushions are a true alternative to leather, combining attractive looks with pleasant haptics. This significantly enhances the interior fittings. The polyurethane upholstery material is halogen-free, extremely tear-resistant, and very easy to work with and can be reproduced in the same quality without restriction. It is free from plasticizers, solvents and the sorts of emissions that, for example, occur with leather as a result of the environmentally damaging tanning process. An important factor for highly visible surfaces in aircraft is that it is individually tailored to the customers’ designs and opens up new design options for the passenger areas.
Upholstery materials from the Dynactiv Mobility portfolio also convey a feeling of luxury. The various surfaces are used on the sides of seats, for instance, and can be combined with customer-specific designs. The product’s formulation means it is affordable. The material is also free from plasticizers, halogens and solvents.
Solution for high-traffic areas
Another highlight for the aviation sector is the Flightfloor Eco non-textile floor covering. The surface material is hard-wearing, slip-resistant, tough and low in emissions and is particularly suitable for high-traffic areas. It was specially developed for applications requiring high abrasion resistance – galleys, washrooms and toilets, entrance areas, aisles, cargo spaces and steps. Its durability is a real plus there. The fact that the material is easy to lay, clean and replace adds further to its cost effectiveness and shortens maintenance times between flights.
Flightfloor Eco features great toughness combined with minimal weight, which clearly raises it above other products on the market. A weight saving of 700 grams per square meter is achieved over standard materials. That cuts fuel consumption and CO2 emissions and has a positive impact on the environment and operating costs. The material is also halogen-free. In terms of design, too, the material offers a wide range of options, thanks to an extensive choice of available grains.
All materials from Benecke-Kaliko for the aviation industry are certified to FAR 25.853 and therefore meet the most stringent requirements in terms of flammability, smoke density and smoke toxicity. The Dynactiv Mobility range represents Benecke-Kaliko’s pooled expertise for the interiors of aircraft, ferries, cruise ships and yachts. The relevant products for the aviation sector are solutions for especially high-wear areas in aircraft. They are less expensive than conventional leather or textile products for these applications and also score because of their environmental properties.
